How to Renew Your TIE Card in Mallorca post Brexit (And How We Can Help)
If you have a temporary residency card (5 years) issued through the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement and it is coming up to the expiry date, it's time to renew it to a permanent one (10 years).
Many people try to do this themselves, and it's absolutely possible, but if you're short on time or dread dealing with Spanish admin, our team can handle the entire process for you. You only need to attend the appointments with us.
How to Renew Your TIE Yourself - Tarjeta de Identidad para Extranjeros
1. Know your renewal window
You have up to 90 days after expiry. Appointments come up months in advance, and you can book this earlier as long as the appointment date is after the card expires. There is a possibility that you may be at risk of fines or complications if you do not renew within the correct time limit.
2. Book your appointment online
All TIE appointments in Spain are booked through the Spanish government website:
-
Select Illes Balears as the province for Mallorca.
-
Choose the relevant option:
■ "Policía – Documentación, Feliciá Fuster (p. lateral) 7, Palma de Mallorca"
■ "Policía – Toma de huellas (Expedición de tarjeta)" -
You can go in with or without a digital certificate/Cl@ve
-
Enter your personal details (NIE, name, nationality) and choose a time slot.
3. Tip: Appointment slots go fast. You need to be checking the website daily, ideally early in the morning.
4. Gather your documents: This is where most people trip up. For a renewal from temporary → permanent residency, you'll usually need:
-
EX-23 application form (completed and signed).
-
Your passport
-
Your current TIE card
-
Proof of address if you have changed address (updated empadronamiento certificate).
-
Tax payment form (Modelo 790 – code 012) and proof of payment.
-
Passport-sized photo.
5. Attend your appointment At the appointment, they'll take your fingerprints again and check all your paperwork. You'll be given a resguardo (receipt) which you'll need when you go back to collect your card.
6. Collect your new card Around 30–45 days later, you'll need to return to collect your new card. This is booked via the same website using the Policía – Recogida de tarjeta option. Please note that we do not accompany you to this appointment.
